Take a flight to Dalanzadgad, the provincial capital of South Gobi. Meet with our driver and drive to Yol Valley (Yoliin Am or Lammergeier Valley) in the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan Mountain National Park. This is a deep, rock-cut valley in the middle of the Gobi desert with thick ice remaining in the shadows of the cliff walls almost all year round. While ascending the valley we will find a small glacier amongst the rocky cliffs if we visit before the end of July.

Getting the first experience of Gobi. Khongor Sand Dune, often called the “Singing Dunes,” is one of the most iconic natural landmarks in southern Mongolia’s Gobi Desert. The Singing Dunes can be found within Gurvan Saikhan National Park. Stretching for about 180 kilometers and rising up to 300 meters in places, the dunes are renowned for the deep humming or roaring sound they produce when wind or shifting sand causes the grains to vibrate. Framed by rocky mountains, green oases fed by the Khongor River and sparse desert vegetation, the dunes create a dramatic and constantly changing landscape.

Today we will explore the area on the camelback. Two-humped Bactrian camels are very comfortable to ride because they walk slowly and gently and riders are well supported by their soft, fluffy humps. Our camel guide will lead you through the sand dunes. Afterwards, you will have an opportunity to visit a camel-herding family to experience their lifestyle, culture and traditions.

As with other deserts, the chance of rain or cloud is slim.

Today we will drive to Bayanzag, known as the Flaming Cliffs. It was here that the first nest of dinosaur eggs ever discovered was found in 1922. Dinosaurs lived here between 65-110 million years ago. The site was discovered by the American paleontologist Roy Chapman Andrews, making world headlines. You can walk around where dinosaurs once roamed, you may find dinosaur bones and you will see saksaul trees, hardy, drought-resistant shrubs and other classic desert vegetation.

Fly back to Ulaanbaatar. Option to go shopping for souvenirs and cashmere products. Cultural performance in the evening.

Transfer to Chinggis Khaan International Airport or Ulaanbaatar railway station and depart Mongolia.
