Travelers exploring ancient deer-stones on the Mongolian steppe under a moody sky

Step by step

How to book your Mongolia trip

From first enquiry to landing in Ulaanbaatar — six clear steps

The process

Six steps, zero pressure

Every step has a clear next action and clear timing. You'll know exactly where you are at all times.

  1. 1

    Day 0 · You

    Send us your enquiry

Tell us your travel dates, group size and what calls you to Mongolia. The more you share — interests, fitness, dietary needs, languages — the better our first proposal.

    • Send via the contact form or email us
    • No payment at this stage
    • No obligation
  2. 2

    Within 24 h · Us

    You receive a draft itinerary

A real human (usually Maamkhuu or Saruul) reads your message and writes a day-by-day draft itinerary with pricing, availability and one or two alternative routes if relevant.

    • PDF itinerary attached
    • Transparent pricing — what's included and what isn't
    • Availability for your dates confirmed
  3. 3

    Days 1–7 · Together

    Refine your trip

Most trips need a small round of tuning — pace, hotel category, an extra free day in UB, a different starting city. Up to two rounds of revisions are included.

    • Email or scheduled call (Zoom, WeChat, WhatsApp)
    • No revision fees
    • Final itinerary & quote sent for approval
  4. 4

    On approval · You

    Confirm with a 30% deposit

A 30% non-refundable deposit confirms your booking and locks in your dates, accommodation and internal flights. You'll receive a receipt and a signed booking confirmation.

    • Bank transfer (USD, EUR, MNT) or Visa/Mastercard
    • Booking confirmation issued same day
    • Internal flights booked (where applicable)
  5. 5

    ~30 days before · Us

    Pre-trip pack

A detailed pre-trip pack lands in your inbox: full itinerary, packing list for your specific tour, weather brief, guide bio, emergency contacts and a reminder to send your insurance and passport scan.

    • 12-page pre-trip pack (PDF)
    • Insurance & passport scan due
    • Balance (70%) invoice issued
  6. 6

    Arrival day · Together

    Welcome to Mongolia

We meet you in the arrivals hall at Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN) holding a small Tuul Travel sign, drive you to your hotel and run a friendly welcome briefing the next morning. From here, the trip begins.

    • Airport pickup included
    • First-night accommodation booked
    • 24/7 emergency phone from arrival to departure

This is why trip cancellation insurance is mandatory — see "Insurance" below.

Cancellation by us

We may cancel a scheduled (group) departure if fewer than the minimum number of travelers book — usually 4. If this happens, we will tell you no later than 45 days before departure, and offer either:

  • A full refund of all monies paid, or
  • Transfer to an alternative scheduled departure of similar value, or
  • Conversion to a private trip on the same itinerary (price adjusted).

For force majeure (war, natural disaster, border closure, etc.), we follow the same refund schedule with appropriate adjustments for non-refundable supplier costs already paid.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is mandatory on all Tuul Travel tours. Your policy must cover:

  • Medical evacuation, including by helicopter from remote areas (minimum cover: $100,000)
  • Trip cancellation and curtailment
  • The specific activities on your itinerary (horse riding, trekking above 3,000 m, cycling, etc. — check the small print)

Popular options include World Nomads, SafetyWing, IMG Patriot and Allianz. We do not sell insurance and have no preferred provider — choose what suits your country and trip type. Please send us a copy of your policy 30 days before arrival.

Passport & visa

  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure from Mongolia.
  • Many nationalities can enter Mongolia visa-free — see our FAQ visa section for current rules.
  • If you need a visa, we can issue an invitation letter on request — please email us at least 60 days before your trip.
  • Send us a scan of your passport photo page 30 days before arrival.

Responsibility & what's included

Included in trip price: all in-country transport (4x4, internal flights where stated), accommodation, all meals on tour, English-speaking guide, park & permit fees, driver, fuel, airport transfers.

Not included: international flights, travel insurance, Mongolia visa, drinks at restaurants, tips for guide & driver, personal expenses, single supplement (if requested).

Tuul Travel Mongolia accepts responsibility for the trip as described, but cannot be held responsible for loss caused by events outside our control (weather, road closures, illness, third-party supplier failure). Personal items remain your responsibility at all times.

Travel responsibly

We work directly with nomadic herder families and small rural businesses. To protect those relationships, we ask travelers to:

  • Always ask before photographing people, especially children and elderly
  • Dress modestly when visiting families and monasteries
  • Pack out everything you pack in — Mongolia has limited waste infrastructure
  • Accept what is offered with at least a touch to the lips (refusing food is impolite)
  • Tip your guide and driver in line with our suggested ranges — these are real people, not staff
